WILLINGTON BOARD OF EDUCATION
April 11, 2006
Minutes

I.      Call to order:
L. Semprebon called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Present:                                H. Arico, D. Drobney, C. Mailhos, M. Makuch,
                                        C Psathas, L. Semprebon and D. Tharp
Also Present:                   C. Berglund, D. Harding, C. McNamara, parents and                                                                                       staff.
                                .
II.     Communications:
        None.

III.    Present to Speak:
        None.
IV.     Presentation:
        L. Semprebon welcomed Christina Mailhos to the board.

V.      Consent Agenda:
Motion #1:      H. Arico moved to:              approve the consent agenda.                                     
                        D. Tharp 2nd            
Unanimous                       Motion Carried

VI.      Committee Reports:
Finance Committee met to review bills.
EASTCONN – reviewed Head Start and Early Childhood programs.
Wellness Committee – J. Boudreau, T. Gareau, C. Psathas and P. Stevens attended a Wellness Workshop sponsored by the State Department of Education. The committee is ready to begin drafting a policy.

VII.     Superintendent Reports:
Gym floor at Hall School will be refinished April 19, 20 and 21 during vacation.  C. Berglund reported on agenda items.  Eighth grade graduation will be held on Thursday, June 22.  Information was shared on school building projects as requested.   
        
VIII.    Old Business:
           Motion #2:  D. Tharp moved to:              approve 2006-2007 budget request of
                                                                $6,959,210.

        Superintendent evaluation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 16 at 7 p.m.    
                
IX.      New Business:
             Motion #3: H. Arico moved to:              approve early release days for
                                                                School Improvement Plan activities
                                D. Drobney 2nd          on June 20, 21 and 22, 2006.
                                Unanimous                       Motion Carried
        
            Motion #4:          D. Drobney moved to:    approve hiring of District Mathematics Coordinator Eric                                                                         Brody, Library Media Specialist Kate Levesque, and Technology                                                                    Integration Specialist Davetta  Thacher for the 2006-2007 school                                                                        year.

                                Unanimous                       Motion Carried

           Motion #5:           M. Makuch moved to:     approve compensating superintendent for ten vacation days.

X.      Board Comments:
        Pat Pinney will be recognized at UCONN as Outstanding Teacher of the Year.  Honk
        was well done and well attended.  Board members thanked Lauren Wright and Ginger Reinhardt for working with students for such a performance.  H. Arico, D. Tharp and C. Psathas again welcomed C. Mailhos to the board.  Members thanked interns and staff for Tech Night information and presentations.  H. Arico commended superintendent on Town Budget Hearing presentation.  First week in May a History Day evening will be offered to community.

XI. Adjournment:
