About the Inland Wetland and Watercourses Commission
Inland Wetland and Watercourses is an interrelated web of nature essential to an adequate supply of surface and groundwater; to hydrological stability and control of flooding and erosion; to the recharging and purification of groundwater; and to the existence of many forms of animal, aquatic, and plant life.

In order to protect the citizens of the town, provisions for the protection, preservation, maintenance and use of inland wetland and watercourses by minimizing their disturbance and pollution through the following powers and duties as established by the Connecticut General Statutes:

Establishing inland wetland and watercourses regulations and boundaries.

To hear, consider and decide upon petitions in boundaries or regulations.

To hear, consider and decide upon applications for regulated activities involving inland wetland and watercourses and their respective upland buffers and to determine whether proposed activities are exempt from or otherwise not subject to the regulations.

To take appropriate action to enforce the inland wetland and watercourses regulations and conditions of permits.

To regulate and restrict with respect to impacts on inland wetland and watercourses the proposed location of any steam plant, gas plant, gas tank or holder, water tank, electric substation, antenna, tower, or earth station receiver of any public service company not subject to the jurisdiction of the Connecticut Siting Council.

To delegate to its authorized agent the authority to approve or extend an activity that is not located in an inland wetland or watercourse when the agent finds that the activity would have minimal or no impact on the wetland or watercourse.

To hear appeals from any decision of its agent.
