Daley Award for Conservation
The Raymond K. Daley Environmental Action Award was established seven years in memory of Ray Daley.  It is given to those who have demonstrated a significant commitment to maintain or improve the environmental quality of Willington.  Past recipients include Harold Weigold, Clarke and Margaret Ruby, Dan Donahue, and Boy Scout Troop 82 from Willington.

A little background on Ray Daley will indicate why the award bears his name.  He was a forester with a bachelor's degree from UConn and a graduate degree in silviculture from Harvard.  His professional life, which involved employment with both federal and state agencies in Connecticut, was dedicated to natural resource protection and management.  The abundance of tree farms in our state is attributable to his work in farm forestry.

Over the years, Mr. Daley served the town in many capacities, most notably as a long-time Secretary-Treasurer of the Conservation Commission.  During his years on the Commission, his activities included conservation education, tree planting projects, improvements in local hiking trails (including the Nipmuck Trail), and exploration of ways to maintain open space for use by town residents
